Blogging

I blog. I've had one blog or another for quite a while, but I started doing it seriously this summer. It started (after a few false starts) as information about my being in Spain...and then I wrote a few things about FLOSS...and it made StumbleUpon and got hits, so I started writing more technical stuff, and then I realized that it was not a good juxtaposition of topics, so I created a split. Now I have my 'personal blog' and my 'public' blog.
Furthermore, I heard that Free Software Magazine offered books in return for writing for them. And I wanted a Python book (online tutorials are only so good.) And I wanted a critique of my writing. And I realized there was nothing to lose from submitting an article outline to them. I'd used Dia (a diagram maker) this summer, and realized how nifty it was, so I did an outline on how useful Dia is, and how to use it. I really didn't think it'd get in. Instead, I got an email that said "I would _love_ to receive this article." from Tony Mobily (the editor.)
I don't see myself writing a lot of stuff for third-party publications like that (for one thing I don't think I could find enough to write about) (for another, it's kind of stressful), but it was a very nice natural high when I saw that email in my inbox. So I'll (hopefully) write a few articles (if nothing else, I want books on Java/CSS/PHP :) and leave it at that.
